Fleas and ticks take up residence on your pet to secure their next meal: blood.
Fleas live their adult lives on an animal and feed frequently on small amounts of blood.
Ticks, on the other hand, attach to an animal for a few hours to a few days and feed continuously. Ticks are related to spiders, not insects, and can live for a long time without food. They are ancient creatures that use “questing” to find hosts, waiting with their front legs extended to grab onto a passing animal or person. Female ticks can become significantly larger after feeding, and even though they can transmit multiple diseases, it can take 24 to 48 hours of attachment before a disease like Lyme is transmitted.
